McDonald’s Ice Coffee - I’m Breaking Up With You.

Oh, McDonald’s ice coffee, how loved you in the beginning when you were fresh and new…and tasted so fine. But now all you do is leave a bad taste in my mouth.

So…forget it. Never again will I get ice coffee from McDonald’s in Clayton, NC. I will risk life and limb to make a left turn into Dunkin’ Donuts on US 70 if need be. McDonald’s, your coffee tastes burnt, your employees don’t speak enough English to know what ‘light and sweet’ means, and when I sip my coffee before I leave your drive-through window and ask you to make it again because it tastes like shit (yes, we use the word shit on this blog), all your employees can do is make faces of disgust at me.

So I’m breaking up with you McDonald’s of Clayton. That goes for you too, McDonald’s of Smithfield, NC (all of you), McDonald’s of Garner and every other McDonald’s south of the Mason-Dixon line.

When I relocated to Clayton, NC from Connecticut, I knew I’d be sacrificing the love of my Dunkin’ Donuts iced coffee since there’s only one DD that happens to be close to me. Now I KNOW where my true ice coffee love lives.

Somehow, living in Clayton NC has been taking a toll on our cars. I guess with all the back roads in Clayton and Johnston County, you’re bound to get a few dings and cracks in your windshield. Which is exactly what happened to my Toyota Corrolla - the official car of Relocate Clayton. Anyway, what turned out to be a ding turned into a crack as long as my forearm within about a week. So, needing a new windshield, I set out to make some calls and get some quotes.

I’ll save you the details of all the quotes I got from Johnston County windshield replacement companies and just tell you this…every company was at LEAST $65 More than the windshield repair and replacement company I went with:

The Coffee Mill - Am I the Last Person to Blog About This?

Much like a moth to the flame, I go where the coffee is. In a previous post, I mentioned that Wendy’s in Clayton, NC has a killer new cup of Foldgers that seems to have told my body that I need four cups a day to be whole. Today, as I write this in fact, I’m sitting here at The Coffee Mill in downtown Clayton, NC. I used to frequent The Coffee Mill upon first relocating to Clayton, NC because a) it had coffee and b) it had Internet access. But it never jumped into my head that should blog about this place until I’m actually sitting here IN The Coffee Mill with my laptop open and a coffee in easy reach.

House blend coffee starts at $1.30 for a small and goes up to $2.00 (excluding taxes). Get your fill of baked goods too, cause I won’t - cookies, Rice Krispy squares, scones and other treats adorn the counter.

Cappucino, latte, americano, breve, chai latte and other words that never come out of my mouth are also available between $.50 and $3.75. Some people say it’s Clayton NC’s best coffee.

Time Warner Cable - Praise and Complaints

First of all, I love my Time Warner Cable service. When it works, that is. I guess the power went out to the Clayton Pointe area yesterday and of course that means no cable, which means no Internet and of course….no phone. So it’s like the stone ages here, but with running water.

In fact, the other day I had to call TWCNC to make a change to my bill. I called the 24 hour toll-free number - and it was BUSY! That scares me. Apparently they are growing so fast that they need to add more lines to their customer facility.

After the power came back on, it took a little while to get the cable back on. At least two hours. Being an entrepreneur, it was a little frustrating staring at my computers for two hours as I had to hand-write my work. For those of you who care, my handwriting is unreadable to everybody but me.

But these outages are rare and are probably caused by someone driving into a telephone pole.

Ok, back to my TWC story. I have loved my service. The digital phone service lets me call anywhere in the US and Canada for free. I think I can call Mexico as well, but I don’t know anybody in Mexico yet. And while my introductory rates have ‘worn off’ after one year, I still love the service regardles of the price. With all the long-distance calling I do, I estimate I save $300 per month by having this service. And the Road Runner high speed Internet is worth every penny. Even with the odd outage.

If you’re relocating to Clayton, NC or anywhere else in Johnston County, you should really look into Time Warner Cable for your home.

The Clayton, NC Chamber of Commerce actively provides activities and events that help members boost their marketing and visibility and increase networking opportunities. Throughout the year, the Clayton, NC chamber also provides profesional development for members. With over 500 members and growing, the Clayton Chamber of Commerce is apparently the fastest growing Chamber of Commerce in Johnston County and members come from all sectors of business - from non-profits and government agencies to sole proprietors and financial institutions.

The Chamber sponsors a number of events throughout the year, including Clayton, NC’s lagest event - the annual Harvest Festival, which brings between 15,000 and 18,000 people to town for the wide variety of events and festivities.

Other events include the Harvest Festival Golf Tournament, the Clayton, NC Christmas Parade, and more.

The Clayton, NC Chamber of Commerce’s Executive Director is Sally Schlindwein who has been in charge of the chamber for over a decade.

From what I’ve heard, the Clayton, NC Chamber of Commerce is very responsive and offers information packets for new residents and people who relocate to Clayton, NC. However, the Relocate Clayton staff have still not received a response to an email sent to the Clayton Chamber of Commerce on May 1, 2007 ar 3:42 PM. It’s a good thing the staff at Relocate Clayton are resourceful enough on their own to find the info they need to give to the daily onslaught of visitors to the Relocate Clayton site.
