Horseback Riding Is Popular With Johnston County Residents
Because of a large number of horse farms and horse-riding schools‚ horseback riding has quickly become a popular hobby among the residents of Clayton, NC and Johnston County.
Promise Land Farms, LLC in Smithfield, NC offers riding lessons on its 134-acre farm with a 22-stall barn and indoor riding facilities. Natalie Killebrew, owner of Promise Land Farms, LLC, is certified by the American Riding Instructors Association (ARIA) and has been training horses since she was 14 years old.
Promise Land Farms, LLC also offers boarding and horse-training services as well.
Promise Land has roughly 35 students and an active show riding team and travels at least twice a month to shows in Raleigh, NC‚ Greensboro, NC and South Carolina.
Some of the school’s students own their horses‚ while other students use Killebrew’s horses for weekly lessons.
Triple J Farms in Kenly, NC offers riding lessons to roughly 15 clients on its 50-acre farm with a 12-stall barn.
According to JoAnna Hinnant, Triple J’s riding instructor, the farm has been passed down for generations, and there are between 25 and 30 horses running all the time.
In addition to professional riding lessons‚ Triple J Farms hosts a summer riding camp in June every year.
Both of Triple J’s riding instructors agree that horseback riding has gained a lot of momentum in Johnston County in recent years.
